Did you see this in the news this week?
Chris, a 38 year old man, fathered a baby last month. The amazing part of the story however, is that he did so using his 21 year old frozen sperm!
When he was younger, he was treated for leukemia, so he had saved his sperm in case he ever wanted to become a dad. Well, 20 years later, Chris being in excellent health did indeed want to start a family. So in an IVF type procedure, he and his wife used his frozen sperm and her eggs to become pregnant. And they did in fact become pregnant in their first attempt using this intracytoplasmic sperm injection procedure.
The successful result while using 21 year old sperm actually tied a record for the oldest viable sperm. Now that is one for the record books!
