Thanks for the update tlee. I was just thinking of you and thought I'd check in!

Ady turns 1 on the 23rd! Omg, where has the time gone?! She is walking, climbing, growing a mighty big attitude! DH was "fixed" this past December, so the ttc part of our life is over. And I am A-okay with that Smile

Hello All

How is everyone doing with your families?! I always love reading your updates!

TMB, I can't believe that your daughter is already 1! Wow that year went by quickly! Ady sounds like a spunky little thing, to be walking and climbing already! Watch out, haha. Smile
It must be nice to have the TTC period of life complete. Even though it is amazing to watch the body grow and change as it carries a little one, and the newborn stage is so beautiful, when it's challenging to conceive, it is great to be done with that emotional rollerocaster. Now you can just enjoy focussing on your family!

AFM, So I first was sent to hospital for a Non Stress Test on March 14th. Over the following two weeks I ended up going back another 5 times for monitoring. On March 27th the doctor at the hospital admitted me due to complications with pre eclampsia and HELLP syndrome (a version of pre eclmapsia that effects your liver.) I was 35 weeks on my admittance date. The hospital is capable of delivering babies who are 34 weeks along. But yesterday my doctor decided to send me to a hospital about a hour away that specializes in high risk pregnancies for a consult. So they are trying to book an appointment for this afternoon. I'll update again after my return.

Tlee- hoping your little one stays put as long as it can, i hope you're feeling OK. It must be exciting to be so close to meeting your little baby! I can't wait to see pics on Facebook. I loved your bump photos Smile

Afm- nothing happening yet. Dh has been telling me quite often how much he wants a second child, which makes me feel just a bit of pressure lol.

Our little one played a practical joke on us! Miles Bartholomeus arrived one month early (35 weeks and 5 days) on April 1st, 2016 at 5:06am! We are so in love!

On Easter Sunday, March 25th, I was admitted to our local hospital due to issues with preeclampsia. Unfortunately medication was not helping to lower my blood pressure, and my live enzymes were going up. The local hospital was unsure of what to do next, so they sent me to a hospital about an hour from our home that specializes in high risk pregnancies. My family and I arrived there at 1:30pm March 31st. The staff were surprised as I was sent, as for the very first time in a week, my blood pressure was normal, haha!! But as they hours went on and we did blood work and more BP checks (which were high), they realized I did indeed have severe preeclampsia. They were debating when to induce, at first hoping to wait a week, then wait until the morning, and then just decided to start induction that night. Thankfully my sister had brought her family to the hospital to meet us and bring supper. She was just leaving, so she brought our DS home with her. At 7:45pm I received a shot to bring down my blood pressure. It worked in 5 minutes, neat!! They were monitoring baby, which was doing just fine. At 8:45pm the doctor attempted to induce me with a balloon catheter. It turns out my body had already decided baby was ready, as I was already 6cm dilated!!! Doctor did a sweep to help move things along. Then the wonderful nurse suggested I stock up on food and drinks now, thank goodness!

At 12:30am on April 1st they brought me to labour and delivery. They started me on an IV medication called magnesium sulphate to help prevent seizures. The down side of this medication is that I could not leave the bed while on it, as it causes your muscles to relax, and I'd be at a risk of falling. I also couldn't eat or drink, as my stomach muscles would also be affected, and they didn't want me to get sick to my stomach. At this time they also broke my water. This is when I finally started feeling contractions.

At 4am I received an epidural. It didn't work quite as well as it did with my first delivery. It seemed to work better on my right side then my left. So around 4:30pm they tried readjusting. It still didn't seem to work very well. Numbness was around my belly button area, but I could still feel a lot of pain else where. My blood pressure was still staying up, 172/118. Just before 5am I was checked by the doctor and I was 10cm. Time to push! Our baby arrived at 5:06am!! NICU nurses were present during the birth, so they took the baby right away to the bassinet to assess him. Everything looked good and they asked us, did you see the baby's sex? DH and I both said no. So he went over to look, and we had a little boy!! We named him Miles!!

Around 5:30am Miles was sent to the NICU as he was having difficulty breathing. He was also found to have blood sugar issues. So he was admitted to their Level III NICU. Unfortunately I was unable to leave the bed, so I couldn't see Miles. But daddy visited back and forth between us. That afternoon, around 5:30pm, we received an update that both the breathing and blood sugar issues seemed to have improved. Unfortunately through the night and into the morning of April 2nd Miles' blood sugars were still low. At times they were so low that they would not even register on the glucometer. At 5am the paediatric endocrinologist came to spoke with us. 1/100 babies will not respond to dextrose IV or glucagon medications to bring up blood sugar. They needed to find something else. They decided to try a medication called Diazoxide. Unfortunately this medication is not readily available. They applied to the Ministry of Health to use this medication with Miles, and received permission. So at 5am they sent a vehicle to Toronto to pick up the medication from Sick Kids Hospital. The medication arrived at 10:30am, and thankfully it was the key!

Miles remained in hospital for a few weeks as they weaned him off the glucagon and dextrose meds, and he learned to eat. We were finally able to bring our little boy home on April 19th!! He will continue taking the diazoxide medication at home. We will be checking his blood sugars regularly throughout the day to ensure he is avoiding hypoglycemia. He will be followed by a local paedtrician, as well as the endocrine team and genetics team from the Children's Hospital following discharge to ensure he stays healthy and happy!
