As you all know, I've been extremely cautious during this whole TTC process, and now, pregnancy!  I read in one book to stay away from pineapple, because it can cause complications.  Another book said that it's a good source of vitamins!  I went online and looked at 14 different sites, and literally half the things I read said that it can cause m/c, the other half said it was good for you.  I mean, those are totally opposite views!

I have Welch's Orange Pineapple Apple juice, and now I'm too freaked out to drink it.  It's only 20% juice, and those juices are apple, orange, and pineapple.  So, it's barely any pineapple.  But you know me...wouldn't even eat bacon or cold cuts while TTC!  So, I'm wondering if it's okay in moderation...like a glass of juice every few days...or if I should totally not even risk it.

Thanks for putting up with all my worries!!  Smile

I have never heard that. I'm not a big pineapple lover but I would think it would be fine to drink every couple days, especially since it is mixed with other juices. Smile Dont stress too much!
And we are here to put up with each others worries so don't worry about it! Wink

Pineapple was nowhere on my list of foods to avoid that my obgyn gave me. I have never heard such a thing about pineapples causing m/c. Be careful what you read online sometimes because I swear you can get so many mixed messages and bullshit advice it will drive you crazy! I've been eating fresh pineapple and mixing OJ and pineapple juice and it tastes so good. No problems from me here.

Thanks!!! Since half my resources (both online and pregnancy books) said one thing, half said another, I figured I'd ask my favorite group of ladies to be my tie-breaker!

Across the board, I've seen that most things are okay in moderation, but I have no idea what moderation is. I asked if grilled shrimp would be okay...I have that maybe 2x a year. My doctor said 6-12 oz a week! Whoa! I was just asking if I could have a skewer of 4 shrimp this summer!

And the juice is probably like 8% pineapple. But we all know I'm paranoid! Smile

Drink the juice. Eat the shrimp. Smile Stress is worse for your baby than shrimp or pineapple.
Something I have learned: if you search hard enough on the internet, especially in pg land, you can find the answer you WANT TO HEAR, whether it's the right one or not.
So go forth and consume the goodness of most foods! and when in doubt, yes, check with us, but most importantly, check with the nurses or docs. Smile

I've never heard that before...and I've been in love with fresh pineapple my whole pregnancy. So far no problems for me. I've eaten probably a total of 6 whole pineapples the past few weeks/months. Smile

I had a jar of pineapple the other day. I'm ok!

I have been picking at little slices of pepperoni lately since we've been going to parties/showers and they always seem to have pepperoni and cheese trays. And yes, I'm still doing ok... Smile

Hi Jen,
I've never heard that about pineapple either, and ate LOTS of it while in Mexico. In fact, my doctor told me to eat all the fresh fruit I wanted. I agree with Ali...be careful what you read on the internet...you never know who the source actually is that's giving the advice. When in doubt, I just call the doctor's office and check with the nurse.
Big smile Patti

Well, I had read it in an actual pregnancy book first, and I was just checking up on it on the internet. Trust me, I've done many school papers, enough to know not to trust the internet entirely! lol! The verdict is still out, with about half the things saying it's bad, half saying it's good. I'm going to be cautious for a little bit, and once I'm in 2nd trimester (only a few more weeks!), and see my doctor again, I'll go for it more. Unfortunately, the last one I talked to seems like the very overly cautious type. I asked if I could have nitrite/nitrate free bacon, and she said yes, but I shouldn't be eating bacon anyways, because it's bad for you. Well, duh! It's like a treat! I don't have it often at all, and certainly not massive quantities.
