Sara I have a question for you. I don't know a whole lot about the different fertility meds or when one is given over the other, but I was just curious about why you were starting injections right away? Have you been on clomid before and it didn't work? I just thougth that they usually started with clomid and then went from there. Like you I'll do whatever I have to do no matter how many times I have to poke myself, etc. I was just curious that's all.

Thanks!

I was on clomid for 4 cycles between Aug. and Nov.(started with 50mg went up to 150mg)--each time without getting a period after. Thats why my ob/gyn sent me to the fertility spec. knowing I was not ovulating on clomid...the fertility dr. told me that I have a natural resistance to clomid which can happen in some women and that is why the med. did not work for me...all the testing I went through this month was to make sure that the injections would possibly work for me and the dr. does not see why they would not after having perfectly good test results with everything! It is just the next logical step after clomid if it does not work

Keiki- I was given the option to go to a military hospital or out in the economy to a German hospital. Unfortunately the nearest military hospital is an hour away which is not convienent for follow up appointments if needed. The base I live on is only a primary clinic-no specialities. So the Ob/GYN has a really good bedside manner from what I hear and is only 20 minutes away from my home and job. So it will be convenient if I need shots or treatments.

I really am seriously thinking about IUI because my time with my husband is limited due to a possible deployment in the coming year. We just don't have the time to wait around. I am 36 years old and he will be 35 in April. My goal is that my husband would at least be able to be there for the pregnancy and to see our first child born.
We already have had his SA done and he fine. Now the unknown is me.

If anyone can tell me what usually happens the first appointment? What happens the second and so forth?

I am hoping we can try IUI within the two months? Is that pretty aggressive?

I think everyone's experience is different, but I can tell you that mine was mostly them asking DH and I a million questions about family history of fertility, my AF history, DH if he's had any injuries, etc. Then they did a pelvic exam and gave me a plan of action. First they wanted to run some blood tests to see if I had O'd that month (which I hadn't), then they were going to put me on Progesterone to bring on AF, followed by Clomid and another blood test on CD 21-25 to see if the Clomid made me ovulate. Fortunately it did, but I didn't get pregnant. I took my second round of Clomid this month, just O'd today, and if this didn't get me pregnant I have another appointment with the specialist at the end of March.
As for the IUI it's probably pretty early for that to be considered, but I suppose if you're willing to pay for it they would probably do it. I was just thinking that if I don't get pregnant soon I'll ask my specialist in March about doing an IUI while I'm still on Clomid (they recommend I use it a max of 6 cycles).

Katie pretty much summed it up. I didn't have a pelvic though, but had a sono instead. I'm not sure if he didn't do the pelvic because I just had one in November and everything came back fine with that or if that's just how he does things. As far as past that first appt. I don't know because we haven't gotten there yet. He wanted to get DH's SA done and an hsg on me so we will have an appt. after that to see what the next step is. He did discuss clomid a little bit, but he thought that I had O'd all my previous cycles (except for this cycle from hell) because my progesterone level had been drawn and it was fine. Anyways, I am rambling.

If IUI is something that you can afford then I would probably go with it since you have time restrictions. You may need to be a little more take charge with your doc because they may not think that is something you would want to do right away. There could still be a little bit of a waiting period due to probably needing to do an hsg and whatever else they want you to do before they will try IUI or IVF. I'm getting to the point where if we had the funds to do IUI I would want to do it, but with DH not having a job that's not going to happen anytime soon. Hopefully we can conceive the old fashioned way!

GL with your appt. and I hope it all goes well.

AFM: 1 more day until AF shows (I hope). I've never done this before so I really don't know what to expect. My last AF was so painful that I am expecting this one to be really painful. I'm hoping not just because I have to work the latter part of this week and I don't want to deal with calling in sick because of AF. It wasn't just a matter of the pain it was also the damn AFS - I couldn't get off the toilet!!! UGH! Sooo not looking forward to that.
On a more happier note, DH texted me that he got his results back and all he said was that he "passed his squirt test", but there is a message for me to listen to when he gets home so hopefully I will have more info then.

Katie I hope you get KU soon!!! You so deserve it! Smile

DH got his SA back and his numbers look excellent!!!!!
Quantity: 74 million anything over 20 million is good.
Mobility: 80% 50% - 80% is good
Quality: 11% anything over 4% is good.
Next stop hsg.

Congrats on your DH's results Tonya. It is a huge relief, isn't it?

Diane..I hear you on the IUI, if you can afford it, go for it! They may make you do an HSG first just to make sure everything is good. We have also talked about IUI if we hit one year of TTC.

For now we are only on cycle#6, so hopefully it doesn't come to that. By the way, I thought I would share what my Doc said after we got DH's wonderful SA results. She said first HSG then clomid. I questioned her on the clomid thing becuase I know I O, and she said it gives you a chance of having better ovulation and ovulating more than once. Which may help you get PG faster becuase you would release more than one egg. I never knew that they give you clomid even if you O.

WOW Tonya those results look great !!! About the IUI I was hoping the MD would give us a choice of weather we wanted to try clomid or just go straight for the IUI.....but he didn't he recommended Clomid first....I guess because he thinks that we will be able to get the BFP without an IUI,,,,,which would be great and less expensive....I am in the 2ww and just waitin for AF so I can call the MD office...and we havn't done the SA yet b/c DH has to take a whole day off of work and he doesn't get paid when he doesn't work soooooooo I guess we will do it on the same day as the HSG b/c he will take off that day already....Man all this waiting is driving me crazy!!!!
