My DH and I have recently become serious about TTC after 11 months of not trying very hard.  We got the FertilAid and a boatload of OPK's.  A couple of days ago I saw the first second pink line I've seen in almost a year, a positive OPK.  Since then we've BD several times.  I think the FertilAid has dried me out a little bit, and I've been extremely succeptible to UTI's throughout my life.  For the first time in a while, I'm confident about my timing and changes of getting PG.  However this morning, I woke up with that familiar feeling of the first signs of a UTI.

My question is, do you all think this would affect my chances of getting PG this cycle?  If I do have one, will the medicine mess this up too?  I know I should ask a doctor about this, but thought I'd start here and see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Hey, I don't think the UTI itself would have any negative effect on your getting pregnant, but I know that some of the antibiotics they can prescribe can be bad for pregnancy, so maybe your Dr. could prescribe you one that is safe during pregnancy, just in case. Good luck, and my fingers are crossed that you get that BFP really soon!!

Welcome Jessibaby!
Some irony here..... Smile About 6 months ago, I remember a couple of women saying that before they found out their BFP, they had an UTI.... maybe it is good luck? I also know that there are folks that take the FertilCM with FertilAid and that seems to help them with the drying out.
I second the idea of checking with your doc about the meds though.
Sending lots of baby dust your way!!

Hi Jessica, and welcome!
There are definitely antibiotics out there that are safe for pregnancy...I got a bladder infection when we first started TTC, and my doc knew it, so she put me on Macrobid. It cleared everything up real quick.

Also, and be prepared for TMI, I know EXACTLY why I got my UTI...because we were TTC, I didn't get up after BDing and go to the bathroom to pee, which I ALWAYS do afterwards because it flushes out any bacteria that may get into the urethra during intercourse. After that incident, I still allowed myself to sit for 20-30 minutes with my hips elevated, but when my timer went off, I got up and peed. Now, if you're already prone to UTI's that advice may not help, but it probably can't hurt either.

Just a thought. Smile

Thanks so much for your input! Elizabeth, I SO hope you're right, although I've never thought of UTI's as good luck! Jennifer, I usually do this, get up and use the bathroom after BD. But in an effort to keep all his little guys in their place, I've been missing that step. I like your method, lay for 20 minutes, then get up. I think I'll invest in a lot of cranberry juice too, I'm not about to get a UTI every cycle until we're PG!!

Nice to meet you all and Baby Dust!!

Jessica, you'd have to ask some of the other ladies about how they work, but Instead Soft Cups will help keep the swimmies inside, too.

Jessica, if you are having the dilemma of keeping in the swimmies or going to the bathroom to avoid a UTI, definitely consider SoftCups (Good suggestion Jennifer!).
I've used them before and they keep all the swimmies in and you can wear them up to 12 hours, even overnight. There are several success stories about them and getting pregnant, including people who are on this forum. There is a string in the TTC forum called 'Softcups - Anyone used these before' and I think EVERYTHING you wanted to know about them is on there.

Good luck!!

I have been pg 2 times each time I got a uti and each time my baby died. I would not think of getting pg again till I was clear of the uti the antibiotics that are save for pg wont cure all uti's they have to send your urine to a lab grow a culture and determine what antibiotic you need. UTI's also have been the cause of pre mature labor. Infections and babies just dont mix. I have a uti now and wont ttc untill it is gone, the last one took 4 months to get rid of.
