So I went shopping yesterday for a new pair of maternity jeans. I only needed one pair because I have two pairs from my previous pregnancies, but my favorite pair has been worn so much (I bought them from a consignment store for $10, 4.5 years and 3 pregnancies ago), that they got a hole in the knee right before K3 was born - I have a patch and can hopefully fix them. Anyway, the new jeans were $45!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER spend that much money on clothes! EVER!! I was disgusted, but I didn't really have a choice because I wear jeans practically every day, so I need a new pair. And since this is PG#4, I know I'm going to show sooner and get bigger than before. (SOOO looking forward to that!)
I am going to drag out the phone book today and start looking for consignment shops. I may even head down to Good Will. Considering that I'm only going to wear these jeans for 8 months or so, I have real heartburn over spending that much, but it's a necessary evil. But my bargain-hunting brain keeps saying, "Do you know how many diapers $45 can buy?!?!?" A lot, since we use a combination of store brand diapers and cloth diapers that I wash at home.
Unfortunately, because I'm a "full-figured" woman, my selection of maternity clothes is limited, and what IS out there isn't really my "style." My next purchase is going to be a nice dress/skirt & blouse for church wear, and I'm really not looking forward to that search/purchase. It doesn't help that I really hate shopping for clothes!
All I have to say is that I'm going to get the most of that $45 pair of jeans, even if I have to wear them EVERY SINGLE DAY!
My favorite maternity clothes from my last pregnancy were from Target. I liked their selection better than Motherhood.

Maternity clothes are actually something that I'm concerned about too -- I'm about a size 16/18 and usually have to buy my clothes (pants especially) in a plus size store. My shopping opportunities are already limited to 3 stores for regular clothes, and now I'm a little bit concerned about finding stuff to wear during my pregnancy. We have 2 maternity stores in town. A Thyme maternity and a Motherhood. The Motherhood store has a plus section that takes up one clothing rack out of the whole store. That's it! The Thyme maternity store does come up to size XXL, but those are hard to find. I have a feeling that I'm going to go into the Motherhood store, try some stuff on and find out what size I am there. If I'm a 1X instead of the regular XL, then I'm going to have to order things online as their instore selection is so limited. Once I tell my sister that I'm pregnant, I'm hoping that she can lend me some things as she just had her baby 5 months ago.
I totally hear you on the conspiracy thing, although my issue is with the limited selection of bigger clothes. Apparently bigger girls (I'm 5'10" and a size 16, so not even that big!) don't have sex and get pregnant!! It actually is really a huge pet peeve of mine -- sorry about the rant!

Bethany, I'll have to check out our Target...thanks!
MizBoots, I am also a size 16/18, but I am only 5'6". My issue is that I have a large chest. 46DDD (yes, that's 3 D's, not a typo
). I find that when I'm pregnant, I have to buy 1X and 2X size shirts to cover my bbs, butt, and big belly modestly. I have a whole mess of plus-size maternity shirts from JCPenney and Lane Bryant, and they weren't outrageously expensive either. Check them out online...I've been pleased with their maternity clothes, even the plus sizes: quality clothes, good prices, nice selection. I do most of my clothes shopping online, simply because, as you said, the selection of maternity clothes in our size in the brick-and-mortar stores stinks! The jeans I bought yesterday were from a Motherhood store, and they also only had the one rack for plus sizes in the entire store. However, I found that the 1X jeans were WAY too big and the XL jeans were just right (right now). I bought the XL, even though I will probably regret it as I get bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and....

I had some great luck at baby and maternity consingment sales and stores in my area. I got 4 pairs of maternity pants ( 2 jeans and 2 cords) and 2 shirts, almost brand new condition for $50. You all probaby have them in your area. I found the first one on the Baby and Kids section of Craigslist then got on an email list for all the future sales.

I really like Target for maternity clothes when I was pregnant with DS. They also have a plus section. But the prices were so much more reasonable than motherhood. I also had luck with JC Penny maternity.

Be glad that you are not. Most of the reasonable clothes really lack style. Plus, you get tired of wearing them after awhile. You may be able to wear regular clothing just bigger sizes since you are so tiny. You are the cutest pregnant woman!

HaHa I remember with my first PG I was so anxious to wear maternity clothes...then I got so tired of them towards the end and then 2 weeks after the baby I tried fitting back into my regular clothes...I did have one pair of maternity pants that I would get away with wearing 6 months after my DD was born....they were soooooo comphy! I love those pants and so happy I get to wear them again without the crazy looks

Although I'm not PG yet, still TTC like Sara, one of my closest friends who recently had a baby SWORE by ebay. She said she got a 'lot' and I don't mean that in like 'I got a lot of clothes', like an actual 'lot' unit of measurement, like 75 pieces, for $50.
It's worth a shot for those of you looking! I mean even if you don't wear all of it, you're still only paying around $1 per article!!
