Hi There!  WOW - I'm finally joining a forum.  I've been wanting to do this for awhile....
My husband and I have been TTC for a year.  I went off the pill last September in hopes that we would just take it easy and natural and it would happen within a few months.
Unfortunately in the 12 months we've been trying, I've only had 3 regular cycles.  My doc at first said to wait a year, and he'd refer me to a fertility specialist.  Finally about a month ago - after not having a period for over 150 days, I saw him again.  An ultrasound, and blood tests seem to indicate I suffer from PCOS.  (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
I just started taking Metformin on Friday - and although the internet and my doctor have indicated it could take weeks for it to start taking effect - I just got my period today for the first time since May!  (unless it's just heavy spotting - I am not counting my chickens before they hatch!)
So now I hold out hope that the TTC thing will now work and soon.  It's certainly been an emotional roller coaster for both of us.  If anyone has any positive baby vibes to pass my way - I would so appreciate it!!
Look forward to meeting you on here!

wishing you and your husband lots of luck!!!and welcome!

im new too and my husband and i had been trying for a year and finally in july i said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and went to my doctor. that is after i wanted to murder people, all of a sudden i was angry all the time. and i mean angry, like i wanted to run people off the road if they made me mad. I though i was just going crazy but it all makes sense now that i was dx with pcos...i had high levels of ldl, for a while the doctors thought i was diabetic and then there was my acne. ive had a clear face for about 5 years and then POPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOP i looked like i was a 15 year old boy. no fun. and the biggest sign, no periods... 6 months would come, no period, nothing. i was put on meds to get my period and then it would come for 6 weeks, stop for 3 days then come back for another 4. it was the worst couple of weeks. i was miserable. as the nurse told me "you've got a lot up in there to come out, im sorry." Sick

so the fateful day my doctor said, your odds of getting pregnant naturally would be in 6 years... 13 periods a year, and i was getting 2. it was hard news to swallow that i couldnt just get pregnant.

buuut we started bc and the doc said we could have a shot at getting pregnant without fertility drugs if i went off and tried first 1-2 cycles after bc. cross your fingers!!!~

we are always told how easy it is to get pregnant and then you found out, its not.

Hi Babaloo,
I just joined this forum and have been trying for 3 months. I've had PCOS my whole adult life, but I control it through a very strict diet and exercise instead of metformin. When I first got diagnosed in my 20s, my androgen levels were so high that the docs told me there was almost no way I would get pregnant! I was heartbroken for years. But straight away after finding out, I also put myself on a completely sugar-free diet and my blood levels went back down to normal again.
Just recently, I went to see a doc who said that I might be ovulating and might be able to conceive!
So, I'm right there with you in seeing how it all goes. Now that you are on Metformin, try to incorporate as much exercise as you can and cut out all those bad carbs that spike your blood sugar. This helps women with PCOS a lot.
They say it takes 3 months for the ovarian tissue to be impacted by a positive action like diet, exercise, vitamins, or medication like the one you're on. So it might take a few more months, but your much closer now!
The great news is I've read about many women with PCOS who have had babies. So we are not alone!
Good luck,
Ann
