So in my long day of searching the internet today, (which i will likely be doing for the remainder of my 2WW) I found that you can use OPK to detect HCG in the urine before a HPT would be able to detect it. The info says that the OPK detects LH (as we know) which is very similar to HCG, and thus can pick up the HCG as well. And since the OPK are designed to pick up such low levels of LH, (hence the reason you can have a faint test line leading up to your positive just before ovulation) they say that an OPK can pick up HCG levels as little as 10-15 or so. Had anyone heard this or tried this??

Hi Babyplease, Glad you're here! Yes, there's a lot of evidence for that, though the use of OPKs for pregnancy detection is discouraged by medical community. I'd be inclined to treat it as a good indicator, but one that needs to be verified by a pregnancy test detecting hcg once levels are sufficient. Good luck to you!

I would be cautious using an OPT/OPK as an indicator of pregnancy. While you may get a positive on an OPT when you are in the early stages of pregnancy, you can also get a positive just because you have an elevated amount of LH in your system. Check out www.peeonastick.com - there is a link on the left hand side of the site that deals specifically with OPKs used as HPTs and why they are NOT an excellent way to test for early pregnancies. Hope that helps!

well i've decided to do a little test of my own. i am doing an opk each day, and looking for any changes as time goes on, like the test line getting darker. at the end of my 2ww or if i get a positive hpt i will try to post the pictures to see if anything comes of it. so far i am 7 dpo and, though still very light, the lines are getting slightly darker each day, so we will have to wait o see if it turns out to be a bfp!!!

I may have to try this! I have the internet cheapies that test LH at 20mlu which is supposed to be pretty sensitive....Think they could pick up anything HCG related???? I read the above posts about it not being a good indicator of pg but I just can't summon my body to go and buy a pg test - even from the dollar store. I just can't stand the disappointed feelings associated from all the pent up excitement of driving to the store, standing in the check out line with the what if's running thru my mind, then getting home and staring at it and making myself crazy till the next a.m. only to poas and it be neg. No thanks.

Well, it's bad news for this experiment this month. AF showed up this morning, so I'll have to try again next month. So far the OPKs that I was taking every day had just a very faint line each day, and didn't really change either, so we'll see what happens next month, hoping for a BFP!!!

Well, It doesn't work......I took an LH test strip last Thursday just for giggles and it showed up with 2 lines, but faint which means it's a negative.

I took a FRER this afternoon and it was a bfp - right away so I don't think they work......

Well, I have decided to try this again this cycle. I am 7 dpo today, and peed on an OPK, which gave me a faint test line. I think that I will use the OPK each morning and start with my first HPT on 9 dpo, which is day after tomorrow. I already know there is no way I can hold out until 14 dpo like all of you strong and patient ladies, so I am not even going to kid myself Wink I ordered like 60 OPK strips off ebay for $15, so I don't feel guilty using them so frivolously. If nothing else, it satisfies my need to POAS Smile We'll see what happens, I hope this is it!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets way anxious during the 2ww! I certainly hope you do get your BFP!! I am dying from AF cramps today Sad I have the laptop way up on my abs so the heat will subside some of the pain. I hope the Prog will let me ovulate again this month, I do not want another period any time soon! Still waiting for my OPKs and HPTs to come in the mail, along with my BBT. Taking the past six months off only made me stress more, b/c I had no idea if I was even ovulating, and I had no way to find out, and every month I was so sad and disappointed. Even though I was told not to get pg until the Lymes disease was gone, I couldn't help but want to! But now that's over with, and I can safely get pg, so POUR ON the baby dust!! My dh wants me to add that he is very supportive about BM at anytime! He's so silly~ he would never get on here, but he loves to watch me go nuts!
