Share your journey with other women who are also hoping that an IUI will lead to a BFP (Big Fat Positive)!

Well I just thought I would get this thread started. I don't know if anyone else on this site is currently doing IUI, but I would love any feed back any one has about it. DH and I are planning to try it next cycle if this one doesn't end in a BFP.

DH has 5% morphology so we are hoping to pick out the winners and get them in the right spot and the rest will be up to them!! Big smile

Hi Jayne,

Doesn't look like we were successful this cycle so we plan on proceeding with IUI this next cycle. DH also had only 3% morphology. I would love to hear any input on IUI as well; thanks for starting this thread!

I'm sure not all plans are the same, but my doc wants me to take the Clomid CD5-9, have an HSG sometime between CD8-12, and then go straight for IUI. Since I ovulate pretty regularly, once I get a (+) OPK, they'll check the follicles via ultrasound and usually perform the IUI within 24hrs. The DH has to provide his spermies the morning of IUI so that they can wash and select the good ones for the procedure. I heard the actual IUI is pretty simple and quick. Then they'll have me take progesterone to help with maintaining any possible pregnancies.

Have you been taking the Clomid/meds already? I guess we are getting right to the IUI since we've been TTCng for over 14mo now....

I'm also curious as to what the success rates are and how many sessions of IUI women have had to endure prior to their BFPs....Ours friends were able to get pregnant after one session of IUI so I hope we can all be just as lucky!

Hi Sandy,

Our RE basically said that with straight IUI with the sperm washing the chance each cycle is about 20% which is what it is each cycle for a healthy couple. She also said if I take Femera (a drug similar to Clomid) and get a trigger shot to stimulate ovulation then the IUI and sperm washing the chance may go up to 25%. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but she said currently with my DH's morphology we are looking at more like a 10-15% chance each cycle.

They found a cyst on one of my ovaries so they will not do the Femera until the cyst is gone. So on CD 1 I'm supposed to call the RE and schedule an ultra sound for CD 3 to look at the cyst. Then if it is gone I will take Femera CD 3-7 and then the trigger shot likely around CD 13. Then they will do IUI the next day with DH's washed sperm. Then they will give me progesterone too. So a pretty similar plan it sounds like! If the cyst is not gone then I will just use OPKs and when it turns positive call and go in for IUI the next day.

Do you know how much each round is going to cost for you? I am figuring ours is going to be between 500-1000. I know it is worth it, but yikes!

Hi Jayne,

Sorry to hear about the cyst; I hope it fades into oblivion and never comes back. It's great that you can still proceed with the IUI and not have to wait though.
I do wish the success rate would be higher with IUI, but at least it feels like a proactive step and hope it will increase the chances from nil to at least something. Keeping the FX......

We are only covered 50% for office visits, diagnosis, and testing, but the actual IUI and sperm washing is not covered. So I estimated around $1200. Yeeeeesh..............

Please let me know how you make out with the IUI. We just saw a fertility specialist after completing all the testing and they said IUI is only about 3-5% successful. That is very different from what I've read here. My DH's SA reported bad motility but normal morphology. Maybe that's the difference.

We did one cycle of IUI w. Clomid but I could only take 3 days instead of 5 bc I started having flashes in my eyes and that's a side effect. Produced two eggs but no bfp. 2nd attempted cycle took femara but i didn't seem to be responding to it well and my doc missed my ovulation so we didn't even do the IUI. next is using injectables. i will be taking a class soon. a bit nervous about giving myself shots. sigh.

Hi Ladies,

Jayne, how amazing that you started this thread and never had your IUI, but got your BFP!

Joyclara, How did your IUI with the injectables go? I am nrevous about the shots too, but DH said he would give them to me if I can't Smile .

I have read many different statistics about IUI, I think it does depend on what the couple's possible cause of infertility is, but IUI with injectables gives you about a 25-30 % chance, that is what our fertility doc said. He gave us the option of IUI with clomid, but said this only gives you a 15% chance of conceiving. He said it would mean more office visits to do the injectables, but I am willing to do what I have to do to finally get PG. Part of me can't believe it has come to this, I mean I am excited about the possibility of the IUI working, but disapointed that we could not get PG on our own. Luckily for us the IUI and all of the tests are covered under our health insurance (I think we will only have to pay a $14 co-pay per office visit) and because of where we live, I do have to fly to get to the Doc's clinic, at least our health insurance will reimburse us for the flights. We were gievn the potion to do back to back IUIs (2), so we will do that since we will be flying over anyway. I am excited, but trying not to get my hopes up to high. As of now since we saw the fertility doc after I had already started the clomid for this cycle, we will do IUI next time. Unless we get a BFP.

Hi ladies,

Looks like this board has been pretty quiet. Anyone out there currently going through this right now?? This is my next step according to my doctor. Just waiting for them to call and make the first appointment. Would love to hear other stories since I have no idea what to expect.
