Molls- One place in Virginia does natural IVF cycles and they only use Vicadin. You may want to request that if you can.
I really only had pain like one day after egg retrieval and it helped that I did not have OHSS. Ladies please drink lots of water and eat enough protein during your cycle. I think that was the ticket for me.

Diane why water and protein??? Is that to boost egg production/quality??? Just curious. I will try everything so really appreciate any tips.I would also recommend using a hot water bottle from once AF stops until you take the HCG shot!!!! It helps build up the uterine lining!!! It worked for me this month with increasing it. At least that way the lining is better for implantation!!!!! They also say pure pineapple juice, not from concentrate is good for implantation. So I am drinking it this week since I took the trigger shot!!!.

Thank ye both for the reassurance about retrieval!!! I know it'll be okay!!! Loads of women go through it here every day and they still go back for more if needed so it can't be that bad!!!

Intrigue I think with the day 2 or 5 embryo transfer that with day 5 you are definitely having the best and strongest eggs transferred. Day 2 seems a little early.I know here it is day 3 or 5. They keep an eye on them to see how they are progressing!! My friend had 5 embryos on day 2 but by day 5 only 2 were strong enough. The other 3 couldn't even be frozen as they wouldn't survive!!!I am sure they will do what is best for you. We have to trust them as hard and all as that is!!!! I am really surprised that they don't work weekends for IVF. I was giving out here that they don't do routine scans here at weekends but they do IVF stuff every day.If egg retrieval falls on the weekend they do it!!!So I guess we are lucky in that way.It really annoys me that with the cost of treatment that they cannot pay for staff at weekends!!!! There is some very insensitive staff working in that clinic but I am sure there is some lovely ones there too and I hope you meet one soon.I guess they do this everyday and just see it as their jobs but I don't think that is good enough!!!! Try not to get too disillusioned by their behavior!!!! We will all get there with this help. Some may have to have 2-3 attempts but I see this working for us ladies...It has too.Keep the faith!!!!

Molls- I will definitely take that tip about the hot water bottle. GL this month.Yes , protein will boost the quality and maybe quantity of eggs. With IVF its about quality rather than quantity. The goal is not to have 20 or 30 eggs because they are not all going to be mature and you are risk for OHSS.
I read other IVF boards about women increasing their intake of protein and they noticed a different in how many eggs they produce from their 1st IVF cycles and their 2nd one and their success rates. It can't hurt. Also its best to keep hydrated. My accupuncturist encourage me to drink lots of water like 64 oz a day. I probably only had 50oz a day. I also snacked on Turkey jerky, egg whites, and cheese sticks along with fruits and pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. I did low carb a tad bit.
If you were taking supplements like maca root, vitex. royal jelly stop them while on the birth control because you are trying to be suppressed and not stimulated. I kept up the wheat grass juice or powder, prenatal vitamins, CQ10 and B vitamin (good for stress) during the cycle.

Just remember the eggs that you have for your IVF cycle started generating in your body 90 days prior just like sperm production. So I actually have to start putting down the wine/alcohol and junk food because I went on a binge after my IVF cycle!!! Now I am back on maca root, wheat grass, royal jelly, CQ10, and prenatal vitamins because January will be here before I know it added L'Argnine which is good for sperm and egg production. October I will be even more stricter with my diet and reintroduce accupuncture.

OMG but it sounds like such hard work and discipline!!!I have cut down on alcohol lots over the last 3 months for the induction so I am okay there. I have not stopped acu so will have 5 months behind me by the time retrieval is due.I will just continue with it now at this stage!!! I will increase protein and water intake!!!! Thanks for all of your help and info.It is good to hear that!!! Well done on all you do.You really do an excellent prep. Ya I know quality is so important!!!! Now I have to try to boost them!!!!

molls- Unfortunately, I am not disciplined when it comes to dessert!!!! But I must like swallowing a lot of vitamins to make up for it. The most important key is relaxing and getting enough rest. Those early monitoring appointments kicked my butt. Also it depends if you are overcoming any issues like endometrious or PCOS. Sometimes its the luck of draw on how you respond to the medications. I think I was so scared about that issue. Some people had more follicles than me but got the same fertilization rate. I was bumbed about having 12 follicles but I got 10 mature eggs retrieved, 9 fertilized and I had like 7 eggs hanging around the 5 transfer day. While you have some women who have 20 eggs retrieved but like 15 are mature and 10 fertilize. So its really quality.
Also any of you guys doing icsi or just letting them swim in the dish?

Hi Diane, I am planned for ICSI although when I met with with the FS last week he made a passing comment about us probably doing (sounds like PIXIE) I guess thats actually a P in front of the usual ICSI but I not sure and cant seem to find info on it at the moment.

I will certainly be taking all suggestions on board. I mean if we going this far we may as well go the whole hog hey.

The nurse at the clinic the other day scared me a little about transferring two (she was you'd be asking for disaster, one is hard enough, your risking your body and the babies) the more I think the more I think pfft. People carry healthy twins all the time and if I dont mind the idea of twins and it increases my chances of getting one then I think I am all for it.

I been reading abit on an australian forum and they refer to the first round as being a bit of a practice run. Thats exactly sums up what all the clinic people are like.. its like welll try this and if it doesnt work then we try that (i.e. one transfer and if not work next time we might consider two, We try without suppliments and if it not work then maybe we try. We try you on a low dose of meds and if it not work we try a higher dose). PFFT I DONT WANT A PRACTICE ROUND!
I CANT AFFORD A PRACTICE ROUND AND I dont want to put my body through a practice round.... GIVE ME WHAT IT TAKES TO GET ME PG! (dont they get it....I dont want to learn how to make the batter I want to make the cake).

I asked my GP and FS about DHEA as I noted that it seems alot of people in the 3rd, 4th, 5th IVF cycle are given it (you need a script for it). but my FS just say nah, no evidence to suggest it work, (pfft who cares if it doesnt hurt I want it).

Think I might be a FS worst nightmare! Or maybe my own worst nightmare.

AMBER.. where are you?

Molls, how is this cycle going for you, testing time isnt it?

Diane I am doing just IVF with the dish I think!!!! It is what they have recommended with DH spermies!!! It costs alot more here to do ICSI so unless they suggest it we will just do the dish!!!! Sounds so weird to think that our baby will begin in a dish!!!! Do you ever tell them that when they are adults??? Just something I was thinking about....I must start popping more pills!!! Wink Wink All for the greater good...

Intrigue I am 5-6dpo. So not testing till the weekend.I will be 10 or 11 days po on Saturday so plan to test then. I have no discipline to wait any longer!!! Wink Wink Wink I am so hoping and praying that it has worked for me!!!! I feel fine with nothing to report at all!!! I only had trigger shot 9 days ago so hcg still in my system... I am thinking about it los this month. I guess that is because this is our last chance alone and it was our best month ever

I don't get their reluctance for twins either. I know twins are at a greater risk of miscarriage but there is loads of twins as you say. They were like that here with me too for the induction!!!! I will chose 2 if I am able, if I am lucky enough to have 2 embryos!!!

Quality eggs, not my strong point but I know with meds it is better. I don't like the idea that round one i looked at like a practice run...The most EXPENSIVE bloody practice run ever!!!! No No No...Get it right the first time and if it doesn't work at least you know all that can be done was!!!! Not that they did something by half measures!!!!

Hi ladies!! I was away on a trip and now just trying to get caught back up on everything. I will pop in every now and again to check in. Just know I think all of you ladies are incredibly strong, knowledgeable and TONS of ladies here support you!!!

Here' a little about me:
I am 34 and have a 22 mo old DS that happened without any assistance. Which is an interesting story - I have PCOS and a thyroid condition and sought fertility treatments 6 years ago (previous DH) with no result. So new DH and I decided to go off b/c for a few months to be able to tell the dr we'd been trying. Well...I go off the pill, then see the dr who told me I had to either be on the pill due to my PCOS or be on fertility meds. At that time we decided to wait on fertility meds - I waited a couple of weeks to start back on b/c, took one month of it and AF never came ---I got pg during my "break" from b/c! Fortunately the month of b/c didn't effect anything and I now have a happy, active toddler.

Now TTC number 2, our luck has been completely different. We've been TTC for 11 months. We did the whole "lets go off b/c and see what happens"...and nothing happened. I tried going to a new dr, what a disaster!! I'm back to my old dr. I've done 4 rounds of Clomid and am no longer able to take it as I grew several cysts this last round. I recently finished provera and now just waiting for AF to arrive so I can schedule my HSG and DH's SA (with a FS). Sounds like if HSG & SA is fine, I'll be on injectibles. We are fortunate that my in-laws are willing to support us financially through this process, which has been a stress reliever.

So that's me. If the next steps don't work, I will become an IVF sister with you all!!

Good luck to all of you!!! FX, FX, FX!!!

Aboyle gosh but you were so lucky the first time round!! I am sorry that it is taking longer this time. It is hard to accept that it can happen so easily without any help and next time around it is so hard. I sure am hoping that my number 2 happens just naturally when I least expect it as I am trying so hard for the first!!! I should wait and see if number one ever happens before jumping the gun but I know already that I want 2-3 children. I hope the HSG and S/A goes okay!!!! Good luck with it!!! I am on month 3 of injectables now. If I can help with anything just ask!!!!

Hi Ladies - Wow I finally got a chance to come and check out this group and I love how active it it! Great group, I think I am mostly caught up but my apologies if I am a bit redundant.
I have been TTC #1 for a few years now, I have stage 4 Endometriosis which is in my ovaries and fallopian tubes. I received a partial grant for meds and I am doing my 1st round of IVF now, I have already started the process and have been on t he BC pill for just over a week. Next week I start on the antibiotic and then, in early October I do the mock transfer and start the meds, assuming all goes well, the actual retrieval is around Oct 10th and the transfer 3 days later. I am being positive that IVF will work for us the 1st try Smile That's my story.

# of embryos transferred - My RE gave me the choice of transferring up to 3 embryos, that is of course if I have 3 to transfer, from what she said that chances of pregnancy go up a bit with each embryo however so does the chance of multiples, BUT triplets are still very rare at my IVF clinic. I have chosen to transfer 2 if I can the first (and hopefully last) round of IVF, as I wouldn't mind having twins at all and I like that it helps to increase the chances of Pregnancy.

As far as the bed rest goes, for me the plan is to have an hour of bed rest at the IVF clinic as necessary, my acupuncturist will be doing acup. on me during that time. My RE also recommends going home and having 24 more hours of bed rest, plus there were studies done that say if you watch funny moves or shows after the transfer the rate of implantation goes up so my plan is to come hope, get cozy and watch a bunch of my favorite comedy movies for a day or so, sounds fine to me Smile I have told all of my friends and family that I don't want any negativity at all that whole week, so if they are having a crisis (unless it's an emergency) to please wait to tell me about it.

General anesthesia is what I will be going under at my IVF clinic here in California, I asked if I could just be on a relaxing drug but they said no, that I will have to be put under so that's that. I'm not thrilled about that part, actually that seems to be the worst part of the whole process but we do what we must. For the transfer I will just be on relaxing meds so that will be fine.

Molls, Diane & Intrigue - I know all of you from the drained forum and I adore you all, it is so nice to not be alone in the process and not have to worry about feeling criticized here on this forum.

Aboyle - Nice to meet you Smile What a great story about your toddler! I wish it were as easy for you with #2. Looking forward to getting to know you.

I didn't get to read all of the posts and I have already written a super long post plus I have to get to work but I love this group and I'm excited to share with you all, I should be able to be on here more often in the following weeks as a lot will be going on with my IVF process.
