Shaken Not Stirred

There is more good news on the horizon for couples opting to use IVF to become pregnant!

There is always a lot of focus on the quality of the egg during the IVF process, but now the researchers at the University of Edinburgh are also looking at a new tool that will help evaluate and select healthy sperm as well. They have named the tool a “sperm shaker.”

The way it works is that two laser beams of light pinpoint the DNA properties of individual sperm. Then, the vibrations that they give off create a pattern that researchers can evaluate and score.

It is their hope that having this new tool will help increase the success rate for couples using IVF by using the healthiest sperm in the process

They are in the beginning stages of testing and evaluating the effectiveness of this new tool and hope to have it available to fertility doctors in the next 5 years.
