Overweight Men

We have read many studies that link obesity to infertility in women. However the same doesn’t seem to hold true for men, according to a new study completed by Nanette Santoro of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

What she and her colleagues did was look at fertility clinic semen samples from 292 men. These men were between the ages of 18 and 50 and had an average BMI of 28.

What they found was that there didn’t seem to be any significant correlation between overweight men and sperm production and motility. What did show up though was that the overweight men did have lower testosterone levels, which is linked to male infertility.

She cautions though, that overweight men should not use this study as a reason not to lose weight and become healthy! :)
