Recently in the news, there was an interesting story about a 38 year old woman who had been forced into early menopause because of two rounds of cancer treatments. Fortunately, she and her doctors had decided that it would be beneficial for her to freeze one of her ovaries before starting her second treatment program.
After becoming cancer free, she was able to have some of her frozen ovarian tissue reattached to her remaining ovary. Doctors have found that even small pieces of tissue are capable of producing follicles and eggs. A few months after the transplant, her cycles were once again regular and she was not experiencing any menopausal symptoms anymore. Amazing!
