Have you been thinking about starting a family? If you have, you are probably deciding whether the time is right.....to start now or to wait awhile. If you are like me, you can see the pros and cons to starting immediately OR waiting a bit before trying to get pregnant.
Let's start with the option of waiting. If you choose to wait you have time to establish your career, get finances in order, get healthy and become emotionally ready to become a parent. There are just as many reasons to not put off starting a family however. To begin with, women are most fertile between the ages of 20-25. Every year thereafter becomes a little harder to become pregnant. The reason for this is because of the changes that take place in a woman's body. One change is that with every given year, there are fewer healthy eggs available for conception. Along the same lines, after the age of 35 many women develop an irregular ovulation pattern. One reason for this is because the follicles that protect and surround the eggs become less healthy. When some of the follicles cease to break open and release the eggs during ovulation, the woman's cycle becomes inconsistent. Other fertility related problems that women seem to suffer from more often as they get older are pelvic disorders and uterine fibroids.
So as you start thinking about starting a family, make sure you talk with your doctor about when to begin the ttc journey!
