If you find yourself playing a trivia game with a group of friends this weekend and the topic of “sperm” comes up, you will be in great shape if you have these fun facts lying nearby!!
Did you know???
- Sperm is released in groups of 40-200 million.
- At puberty, sperm begin to develop at the rate of a million a day, or 5000 every minute.
- It only takes sperm 48 hours to form and then another 2 weeks to mature.
- Sperm learn to swim during the maturation process.
- The last part of sperm development takes place once they are inside the woman. This is when their protective membrane changes so that they are able to penetrate the egg.
- When sperm is initially released, it coagulates only to return to a liquid state just in time to make it through the cervix. This process takes about 10 minutes.
- To get through the cervix, sperm travels along tracks made from cervical mucus.
- At the end of the journey, only the fastest sperm will have the opportunity to romance the egg!
