The Importance of Staying Still After an IUI

Stay very very still…………….

That is what the most current research is recommending after having an IUI (intrauterine insemination). An IUI is a medical procedure where doctors help ovulation to occur, and then introduce sperm into the uterus. Women often opt for this fertility treatment before trying IVF.

The most recent study published in the British Medical Journal suggests after an IUI, you should lie still for 15 minutes. When women do, it helps make sure that the sperm does not leak out. This in turn leads to more pregnancies!

In the study, researchers followed 390 couples who were opting for an IUI. The women were then broken into 2 groups; one group who stayed still for 15 minutes following the procedure, and the other who immediately got up and started moving around. The women who hung out and remained still had a 27% pregnancy success rate, whereas the women who hit the ground running :) only had a 17 % pregnancy success rate.

There are fertility clinics that are taking this study to heart and are now building in a 15 minute rest time following IUI procedures.

So after your IUI, take a few minutes to relax……it just may lead to motherhood!!!!!
