In a new study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the amount of caffeine you are dinking may be increasing your chances of a miscarriage. Dr. De-Kin Li, a researcher at Kaiser Permanent in California completed a research study where he interviewed 1,062 women in the California area who had conceived sometime between the years of 1996-2001. Within this group, 164 drank 200 mg or more of caffeine daily. 635 had less than 200 mg, and 264 didn’t have any during their pregnancy.
Sadly, 172 of the women had a miscarriage. However, what was learned from the study was that those who had more than 200 mg of caffeine a day were 2 times as likely to loose their babies when compared to the women who didn’t have any.
Doctors are still interested in further research in this area to confirm this finding related to caffeine intake and miscarriage.
So….If you need a jolt of caffeine to get going in morning, try to limit yourself to only 1 cup until more research is done!
