Are Carrots Good For Sperm Health?

Maybe the bunnies are onto something here!  They are known for multiplying with ease and surely live up to their reputation around our house.  We have tons of new wild bunnies running through our yard each year.  They are always munching on the grass and enjoying all our hard work in the garden.

A new study has just been released that shows that yellow and orange colored fruits and veggies are great for sperm motility…… and the almighty carrot was shown to be the most powerful of all!

In the study, the researchers tested the sperm of 200 healthy college aged men living in New York.  After establishing a baseline, they then went ahead and changed their diets to include certain fruits and vegetables.  Many of the men who included carrots in their daily menu saw their sperm motility (movement) increase by 8%! Researchers believe that the positive results are because carrots are high in carotenoids, which the body turns into Vitamin A and uses it to promote healthy sperm.

Other interesting information that researchers gleaned from this study was that veggies such as spinach and lettuce were also found to have a positive impact on sperm motility.  The Lutein found in these foods seemed to work similarly to the Vitamin A.

In addition, researchers also found that red fruits and veggies had a positive impact on sperm shape and quantity.  Tomatoes specifically were found to increase the numbers of healthy sperm by 10%!

Just one more reason to make sure you have plenty of fruits and veggies in your diet if you are TTC (trying to conceive).  The naturally occurring antioxidants can only strengthen your fertility health!
