If you have been TTC (trying to conceive) for awhile, you have probably had someone say to you, “You know, if you just relax you will get pregnant.” This kind of comment makes me crazy because if it were really that easy, I wouldn’t know so many women who are struggling with infertility!
Truth be told, a healthy 30 year old woman only has a 20% chance of becoming pregnant each cycle. And the odds drop down to 5-10% for a healthy 40 year old. So clearly, it takes more than a relaxing romantic evening for baby making success!!
Myth #2
I had a friend tell me that she “heard” that if you take birth control pills that you can preserve your fertility.
Unfortunately, a woman’s egg reserve decreases every month so unless you are freezing your eggs for future use, you are not able to trick the body into keeping them.
Myth #3
Infertility is usually the woman’s issue.
It seems like this would be true because there are so many more fertility related body parts for women. But new research shows that there is a 35-40% chance that the infertility issues are related to the man and a 35-40% chance that they can be found with the women. This leaves the remaining 20-30% of couples who struggle with getting pregnant living with an “unexplained infertility.” diagnosis.
